Blog
Set up your blog, the blog post page, comments and the Blog posts section on your home page.
Vellora has a template for the list of posts in a blog, a template for a single post, and a Blog posts section you can add to any page.
Write a blog post
- In your Shopify admin, go to Content > Blog posts and click Create blog post.
- Add a title and the content.
- Add a featured image. Vellora uses it on the post card and at the top of the post. A landscape image works best.
- Write an excerpt. Cards show the excerpt, or the start of the post if there's no excerpt.
- Add tags, such as "Care" or "Interiors". Customers can filter the blog by tag.
- Choose a blog, set the visibility and click Save.
Blog page
The blog page lists posts nine at a time, with page numbers below. Open it in the theme editor by choosing Blogs in the page menu at the top.
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Layout | Grid, or Featured first post, which shows the newest post larger on the first page. | Featured first post |
| Show tag filter | Shows a row of tags above the posts, with All to clear the filter. | On |
| Show date | Shows the publish date on each card. | On |
| Show author | Shows the author on each card. | Off |
See the Blog posts reference.
Blog post page
Each post shows a link back to the blog, the title, the date, the featured image, the content and the post's tags. Tags link to the blog filtered by that tag.
| Setting | Default |
|---|---|
| Show featured image | On |
| Show author | On |
Below the post, a Blog posts section titled "Keep reading" shows three more posts from the same blog. It skips the post being read, so customers always see other posts.
See the Blog post reference.
Comments
Comments appear below the post when the blog allows them.
- Go to Content > Blog posts and click Manage blogs.
- Open your blog and choose a comment setting: disabled, allowed pending moderation, or allowed and published automatically.
- Click Save.
Customers who comment see a confirmation. If comments need moderation, the message tells them their comment will appear once approved. Comments are shown ten at a time.
Blog posts section
Add the Blog posts section to your home page or any other page to show recent posts.
- In the theme editor, click Add section and choose Blog posts.
- Choose a Blog.
- Set Number of posts, the Layout, and whether to show the date, the excerpt and a view all link.
On a blog post or blog page, you can leave Blog empty. The section then uses the current blog and skips the post being read, which is how the "Keep reading" section works.
See the Blog posts section reference.
Tips
- Use featured images with the same ratio across posts so the grid lines up.
- Keep tags few and broad. Five to eight tags make a useful filter. Fifty don't.
- Write a short excerpt by hand. It reads better on cards than a cut-off first paragraph.
