Recently viewed

Recently viewed shows the products a shopper has looked at, most recent first, in a row they can scroll. Choose full Product cards or a compact row of Images only.

How it works:

• Every product page a shopper opens is remembered in their browser, up to the last 20 products. Nothing is stored on your store or in Shopify.
• The section leaves out the product the shopper is currently viewing.
• It stays hidden until the shopper has viewed at least one other product, so new visitors never see an empty row.
• Products load after the rest of the page, so the section doesn't slow the page down.

In the theme editor, the section shows placeholder cards so you can style it before you have any history.

Best practices#

• Put it on the product page, below Product recommendations. That's where shoppers compare products.
• It also works at the bottom of collection pages and the cart page, to bring shoppers back to something they were considering.
• Keep it modest. A small heading size such as Label or Small, and the Images only layout, keep it from competing with the main content.
• Show five or six per row on desktops, so the row reads as a quick reminder rather than another product grid.

Preset tips#

• None of the preset templates includes it by default. Add it to the product template once your catalog has more than a handful of products.
• The compact Images only layout suits Graphite's dense grid. Product cards suit Vellora and Sorrel, where the product name matters more.
